Myths and DIY
Do fruit flies come from drains?
Fruit fly breed in rotting fruit, beer residue, and a potato in a bag — not typically in a bathroom drain. Fuzzy moth-like flies on shower walls are Drain fly. Phorid fly can mean a broken sewer line. Identify before you pour bleach nightly. See the small-fly comparison guide.
Vinegar traps catch adults
A cider trap is a monitor. Eggs stay in the banana. Dump the fruit, rinse recycling, and check the dishwasher filter. Bleach in a drain does not fix fruit on the counter and can damage pipes depending on the plumbing.
