Drain flies are fuzzy, moth-like, weak fliers that rest on bathroom walls. They breed in the gelatinous film inside pipes, not in the standing water you can see in the bowl. Pouring bleach down a drain as a weekly ritual often fails and is hard on plumbing and wastewater biology. Mechanical cleaning of the slime (brush, enzyme cleaners labeled for that use, plumbing if the line is failed) is the method. If they persist, you may have a broken pipe in a slab — a plumber, not more perfume.
How to identify Drain fly
- Small, hairy, heart-shaped wings held roof-like, weak hopping flight.
- Rest on walls near drains and showers.

- Adults on bathroom tile.
- Larvae in drain slime if you inspect a pulled P-trap (plumber).
