How to get rid of House flies
Musca domestica
House flies breed in decaying organic matter, not in mid-air. The adult on the screen is advertising a dumpster, a dog run, or a dirty drain. CDC treats them as mechanical contaminators of food. Control is lids, bags, and cleaning the breeding site. A swatter without sanitation is cardio, not IPM. UV traps help indoors if placed away from doors that attract more flies in.
How to identify House fly
- Gray thorax with four stripes, sponging mouthparts, about 1/4 inch.
- Resting on edges and cords.
- Larvae (maggots) in garbage and manure, not in dry flour (that is a pantry beetle).
