Myths and DIY
Does vinegar kill ants?
Vinegar on a counter removes some trail pheromone so Odorous house ant wander. It does not kill the nest in the wall or the lawn. After you wipe, place a labeled bait they will carry home. Vinegar is not an EPA-registered ant pesticide. Do not mix it with bleach or with a store insecticide.
Trail vs colony
Wiping is useful sanitation. Colony control is bait matched to the species — sugar vs protein — and exclusion at the gap. A weekly vinegar mop as the only tool is how the line comes back after every rain.
