Ants
Does boiling water kill ants?
Pouring boiling water on a Red imported fire ant mound kills some ants near the top and is a burn hazard. Colonies are deeper than the kettle. University extension still puts labeled bait first for a lawn with many mounds. Indoor sugar ants are not a kettle job at all.
When people try it anyway
A single decorative mound, no children underfoot, and you accept that you may need a second method. Never add dish soap and call it a pesticide recipe if you are inventing a mix. Never use it on an electrical mound or a wall void.
