How to get rid of Asian lady beetles
Harmonia axyridis
Harmonia lady beetles were promoted for aphid control and then became a fall invader that stains, smells, and occasionally nips. They are not all native ladybugs. Indoor control is exclusion and vacuuming. Outdoor they still eat aphids — do not nuke a garden because they later knock on siding. A yellow M-shaped mark on the white pronotum is a common field clue (variable). They reflex-bleed yellow staining fluid.
How to identify Asian lady beetle
- Variable orange to red with 0–19 spots, often a black M on the white pronotum.
- Masses on sun-warmed siding in October. Fly indoors on warm winter days.

- Clusters in attics and window voids.
