Rodents
Can rats chew through concrete?
Sound poured concrete is not a food. Rats exploit cracks, the cold joint at a slab, a sleeved pipe, and crumbling mortar. If you have a “rat hole in concrete,” you have a defect plus gnawing at the edges — not a rodent that ate a sidewalk.
What they actually chew
Incisors grow continuously. Rats gnaw wood, plastic, soft mortar, and aluminum flashing that was never fastened. They follow a pipe through a slab. They do not dissolve 4 inches of healthy concrete. A garage with a 1-inch gap at the weatherstrip is the usual story.
